The definition of “hosting” doesn't describe a particular service, but a set of services that provide a variety of functions to a domain name. Having a website and emails, for example, are two individual services although in the general case they come together, so most of the people consider them as one single service. In fact, every single domain name has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, that defines where the website for the domain address is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the emails for the domain name. As an example, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record is mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a site or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the email will then be forwarded to the correct server. The concept behind working with separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you may have your website hosted by one service provider and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a Linux cloud hosting plan through our company, you will be able to see, create and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Provided that a particular domain has our Name Servers, you will be able to modify particular records by using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your site or emails pointed to another provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our state-of-the-art tool is going to allow you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name in any way. If you choose to use the email services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do it with only a couple of clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. You can even set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated servers we provide, you are going to have full control over the records of all domains and subdomains that you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each one of them has via the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and changing any record requires only a couple of clicks. If you choose to change your web or email hosting provider, you can edit the necessary record and point your domain name to the other company for one of the services, as you still keep using the other one through us. You may also keep the main domain name here, while you edit the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you're modifying the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default 2 that we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for each one.
