A password-protected directory is a folder which cannot be accessed unless the correct login details are supplied. This can be a whole website or just one page that's situated in a subfolder. If you attempt to open such a directory, you shall see an Internet browser pop-up where you have to type a username and a password. In case you type in the correct ones, you can continue browsing the content without the need to do anything else. When the login credentials are not correct, however, you'll see a note that you aren't permitted to look at the content. If this feature is active, you won't be able to open a file even though you may have a direct link. The function is incredibly useful if you need to restrict the access to some content or if you are developing a site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it prior to it being ready.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting

Creating a password-protected area shall take only a couple of clicks and a few seconds when you host your websites within a cloud hosting account with us. You will not need to do anything complex - you will have to pick a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it should be protected, and then to enter the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. In case a number of people require their own login details, there will not be a problem to set up numerous different usernames with access to the very same folder. All secured folders shall appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this feature is enabled. If you wish to disable the security feature for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the CP in which you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to shield any content which you have uploaded by using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it is part of, so you will not have to enter any code at any time. You will only have to pick one of the domains/subdomains which you have inside the web hosting account and to determine which folder must be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You may then input the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you'll be ready. The protection shall be switched on right away, so anybody who tries to access the newly secured folder shall have to input the accurate login details. When various people have to be able to open the same content, you can create a separate username for each.
