Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange info between a web server and a client. As the information exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of managing a hosting account. The commands that could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for instance, the alternatives are limited because you shall not have root access to the web server, so you can only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are carried out inside the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the machine or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, that you can use to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting

SSH access is featured with all Linux cloud hosting plans that we offer you. With some of them, it is provided as standard, while with others it's an additional upgrade that you can add with a few clicks in your hosting Control Panel. You can obtain SSH access from the section dedicated to it where you will also find the info that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can pick the password that you will use and, if needed, you shall be able to change it with a few mouse clicks from the same place. All commands which can be used with our shared packages are listed in a help article along with relevant instances. If the SSH access function is enabled for your account, you'll also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to obtain SSH access to it with only a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. If your plan doesn't support this feature by default, you'll be able to add it easily using the Upgrades menu. As soon as you go to the SSH section, you shall discover the details you need to connect to the server through a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter could be updated anytime, if necessary. These login credentials are also required if you would like to upload files through a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we offer. An extensive list of the commands which you can execute shall give you a better idea of what tasks you can perform inside your account and each one is accompanied by a few examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You shall be able to use SSH to handle your content regardless which VPS web hosting plans you choose when you sign up, as all our plans provide this feature by default. You'll not need to add or enable anything by hand - as soon as your web server is ready and you receive the Welcome e-mail with the login credentials, you may connect and begin working on your websites or any software you want to set up and run on the hosting server. You will have root-level access to the VPS and since the account will be isolated from all of the other accounts in the physical web server, you'll be able to do anything you want with no restrictions. You'll be able to install any app that you need and which will run on a Linux-based hosting server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and work with your files and databases fast and easy.
